How to recycle your Christmas tree

You've had so much fun picking out your Christmas tree, trimming the tree and enjoying it filled with lights and ornaments.  It's sad to see the holidays come and go once again but hopefully some good holiday memories were made and you're ready to start fresh for a New Year.
Now that the holidays are over, you're tree too has to go.  You've removed the lights and ornaments and your tree's ready for the recycle bin.  That's right...the recycle bin...not the TRASH CAN!
Please don’t think the only way to dispose of your tree is to throw your tree in the trash or set it on the curb for waste management to pick up on your next garbage day.  Real trees, Christmas or not, are biodegradable, which means they can be easily reused or recycled. Recycled into what?  Mulch or compost!  That's right, return your tree back to the environment by turning it to mulch or compost for gardens and landscaping.  Many cities will collect trees during their regular pick up schedules on the two weeks following Christmas and take care of the mulching or composting process for you.  I urge you to check with your township to see if they offer such services.  If not, contact your local tree service.  They may also offer a similar service. You can also take you tree to a Christmas tree drop off recycling center. Again, check with your local township to see if they offer such service.
Whatever you decide to do, please do your research before you just throw your lovely tree in to the garbage.  There are better alternatives and the environment will thank you.  After all, a New Year is beginning and it is time to start things out right...for you AND the environment.
