When to Prune or trim your Oaks - Trees R Us, Inc.

Time is ticking away...Prune your Oak Trees BEFORE spring hits, at the latest in March.  Trees "R" Us, Inc. in Wauconda will help you with the job.

Did you know there are over 400 different kinds of Oak Trees?  When maintained properly, Oak Trees can get really tall.  Very large, majestic Oaks are beautiful, but need proper maintenance to stay healthy.  Pruning (or trimming) your Oaks in November through March will help maintain their beauty.  If you miss your window of opportunity, don't attempt to prune your Oaks after March, before November. Pruning during these months will make your Oaks susceptible to Oak Wilt, a fungal disease.  The process of trimming the tree will attract a small beetle and spread the Oak Wilt.

You should prune your Oaks about every 2 years,  unless you notice dead or dying branches or it gets damaged by a storm.  You should prune your Oak first and foremost for safety reasons. Low hanging branches or branches that look like they are dying and could fall and hurt someone should be removed first.

Secondly, you should trim your Oaks to keep the tree healthy.

You should trim your Oaks for aesthetics last.

Pruning a large oak is a dangerous job.  You should first get the advice of a certified arborist and then let a highly qualified tree company trim the tree.  Trees "R" Us, Inc. has 4 certified arborists on staff to help assess the needs of your trees and plants.  Our crews of professional workers are highly trained and use the best safety equipment the industry offers.  You can trust all your towering, majestic trees to Trees "R" Us, Inc., a professional tree service on the North Shore and surrounding suburbs.
